ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
For anyone with an interest in exploring their own comic potential, this workshop offers a platform to explore a state of simplicity and vulnerability that will entice the unexpected and the hilarious. The participants are invited into a space of playfulness where having fun is at the centre of the creative process. Playfulness is a state of Flow, where we become less self-conscious and more receptive to the pleasure of being completely in the now and in creative contact with ourselves and the others. We will analyse movement principles like action and reaction, balance and off-balance, push and pull, and levels of physical tension. The understanding of these principles is vital for any performer/actor interested in creating original work within a character, a play, a choreography or a dramatic space. Each day consists of introductory body work and body training, followed by solo and group improvisations. This workshop is suitable for any performer, amateur or professional, who wishes to broaden their skill set in a supportive environment. All exercises will be tailored to the participants' needs and everyone will have to opportunity to work both individually and in groups with allocated time for reflection and feedback. |

We acknowledge that not everyone can afford the fee to participate but Fun in the Oven are passionate about sharing this amazing opportunity to bring more clowning and physical theatre skills to the region. As such, we can offer two funded places. If you would like to apply for one of these places please send a CV and a short paragraph (no more than 200 words) to [email protected] outlining why you would like to take part. Deadline for applications is 20 January. We will let applicants know the result by 22 January.
ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:
Robyn Hambrook is a director, teacher, producer, performance artist and clown. She is also the co-artistic director of award-winning company, Fun in the Oven Theatre, who are passionate advocates of clown and physical theatre. Robyn has trained under leading clown experts and world-class clowns fools including Holly Stoppit, Deanna Fleysher, Jon Davison, Al Seed, Giovanni Fusetti and Jonathan Kay and shares her love of clowning through teaching and performance. She has fifteen years experience working in street arts, outdoor theatre and circus as a director, performer and teacher. Robyn has also recently completed a Masters in Directing Circus at Circomedia and her ongoing work builds on her research using clown, circus and street theatre as mediums for creative protest and acts of resistance. www.robynhambrook.com
Alys North is a dance and performance artist with a BA in Choreography at Dartington College of Arts and an MA in Performance Dance at the University of Chichester. Originally from Bradford, she is now based in Newcastle. Alys works on choreography, performance and participation projects throughout the UK and Europe with companies such as Manasmitra, Merav Israel, State of Grace, Jabadao, Fertile Ground, Peter Groom, Changing Relations, Lizzie J Klotz and Creative Humans. She is also collaborator and founding member of award-winning company, Fun in the Oven Theatre.
